Eugene Russell Monson

Eugene "Gene" Monson , 82, passed away at his home on April 7, 2013. Gene was the son of Harry Monson and Gladys {Johnston} Monson. He was born on 6-6- 1930 in Grand Forks, and grew up in Fargo and Grand Forks. He graduated from GF Central High School, and received a ROTC scholarship for Yale University. He graduated from Yale with a B.A. degree in 1952, and entered the U.S. Marines as a commissioned officer. He served in Korea, and returned to Grand Forks where he completed a MBA degree at UND. He worked as a CPA in Grand Forks for the remainder of his life. Gene was active in the Grand Forks Historical Society, Myra Museum. He was active in a local group of Marine veterans. He loved golfing and spent many happy days on the Lincoln Golf course. He was a lifelong member of United Lutheran Church. Gene is survived by his brothers Jerry {Kathy} of Bellevue, NB, David of Big Sur, CA, and sisters, Darlene Holien of Grand Forks, and Dorothy Patrick of Santa Cruz. CA. He also had many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by both parents. MEMORIAL SERVICES: 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. in Grand Forks.
