Duane "Andy" Anderson, 77, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2013 in his home, surrounded by family. Duane Allen Anderson was born on November 30, 1935 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Melvin and Gertrude (McGrath) Anderson. He grew up and graduated from high school in Emerado. Duane served in the U.S. Army for four years before being honorably discharged. He married Darlene Clark on June 14, 1958 in Elmhurst, Ill. Duane worked Western Construction Co. and he and Darlene traveled to many places during that time before settling in Grand Forks and Emerado area. He then worked for Baseview Champlin, Home of Economy, CASE IH farm sales and in his later years he farmed which was his true passion. Duane was a very successful race car driver and was known as the "Flying Swede". He held many track championships and was one of the first inductee's into the Grand Forks Racing Hall of Fame in 1990. He enjoyed racing a lot and he and Ronnie attended many NASCAR races together. Duane was baptized and confirmed at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, he was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and loved all dogs. He will be greatly missed. Duane is survived by: Wife: Darlene - Grand Forks Son: Jeremy (Kristine) Anderson - East Grand Forks Daughter: Jodi (Michael) Schroeder - East Grand Forks Brothers: Vernon (Carol) Anderson - Grand Forks Richard Anderson - Grand Forks Sisters: Kay (Paul) Odegaard - Billings, MT Colleen (Dean) Mattern - Garrison, ND Grandchildren; Kasey and Skyler Schroeder; Mariah and Braylon Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Altru Hospice. Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Bethel Lutheran Church, 1616 S 17th St, Grand Forks. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks, ND. Interment will be later in the spring in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the East Grand Forks VFW Red River Room on Thursday from 5 to 9 PM.
