Lorraine Martinez, 87, Grand Forks, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 in Woodside Village. Lorraine was born on December 19, 1925, the daughter of John and Jeanette "Nettie" (Thoreson) Sersland in Syre, Minnesota. She was raised and educated in Alvarado, Minnesota. On April 22, 1944, she married the one and only love of her life Mucio "Pancho" Martinez. They made their home in Grand Forks where Lorraine worked as a CNA for 36 years at Valley Memorial Home on Almonte St in Grand Forks. She loved her profession, and enjoyed helping those that needed care. She loved music and was surrounded by music her whole life. Growing up, music was a big part of living in the family. Her husband was the band leader of "Pancho and The Rhythm Rockets". When she married "Pancho", a trumpet player, her love of music took another turn, and "Pancho and the Rhythm Rockets" was formed. She played an important role of support in the success of her husband's band which was widely known throughout the surrounding areas. Lorraine also enjoyed crafts and loved to crochet. She took pride in sharing the many Afghans she stitched with love, given to her family and friends. Family was very important to Lorraine, she spent endless hours talking and visiting with her family members and close friends. Lorraine also loved spending time with her children, and grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Lorraine is survived by her 6 children: Jo Ann (Jerry) Farmer, Cincinnati, OH, Betty (Joe) Cassiano, Laveen, AZ, Sandra (Bruce) Mueller, Arvilla, ND, Jim (Marie) Martinez, Rodger, MN, Beverly Martinez, Saylorsburg, PA, Monica (Greg) Donovan, Woodland Park, Co and she is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Pancho, her parents, and 5 siblings. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Friday, May 31, from 5 -7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
