Charles Allen Bergland

Charles Allen Bergland, 69, of Perham, MN, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Charlie was born March 30, 1944 in Hawley, Minnesota to Elmer and Clara (Kleiv) Bergland. The family moved to East Grand Forks in 1955. He graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1962. He was a plumber by trade but a jack of all trades. He worked at Economy Plumbing for 24 years. Then he owned the Lightning Bar in Alvarado, MN, as well as Bergland Plumbing with his brother Wally and later went solo as "Just Call Charlie" in Perham, MN where he built a loyal customer base. He was united in marriage to Arlene (Halvorson) in Bygland Lutheran Church on August 15, 1964. She survives along with three children, Kari (Bruce) Scilley, Perham, MN, Chad (KayLynn) of East Grand Forks, MN, and Joel, Moorhead, MN; two grandchildren, Nick Delaney and Whitney Delaney; two step-grandchildren, Lacy and Nick Boushee; a sister, Marilyn Johnson, Grand Forks; a brother, Dennis, Hazen, ND; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Bygland Lutheran Church. Charlie enjoyed creating projects in his shop, fishing, music, movies, cooking, camping and in later years, golfing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Clara; an infant brother Irving; brothers, Orris and Wally; a brother-in-law, Odell; a nephew, Larry Johnson. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Bygland Lutheran Church, Bygland, Minnesota with visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Inurnment: Bygland Cemetery
