Gene Arthur Solberg

Gene A. Solberg, 78, of Grand Forks, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks. Gene was born June 2, 1935 in rural Fairfield, ND, the son of Milla (Falkenhagen) & Carl Solberg. Gene attended schools in Medora and graduated from school in Belfield, ND. He served in the US Army from 1958-1960 and was trained as a track vehicle mechanic, and served in Germany. Gene married Geraldine (Gerri) Patterson June 23, 1961, in Miles City, MT. They made their home in Grand Forks. Gene worked for the NDDOT for 53 years in several different departments. He designed one of the first sanders used by the state for snow and ice. He received the Walter R. Hjelle Award for outstanding contributions in transportation within NDDOT. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion. Gene is survived by his wife, Gerri; daughter, Misty; sisters, Jane Hagen, Lovella (Jerry) Biby, Darlene (Russell) Mitchell; brothers, Richard (Boni) Solberg and Clifford (Mary) Solberg; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Lee; brothers, Tom, Clinton and Vernon. FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Sharon Lutheran Church 1720 S 20th St in Grand Forks. VISITATION: Saturday, August 17th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND 58201. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the service at the church.
