Harold "Bud" Mahnke, Jr.

Harold "Bud" A. Mahnke, 62, of Grand Forks, ND died Thursday, August 15, 2013 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Harold Arno Mahnke was born on January 24, 1951 in Sheboygan, WI the son of Harold and Grace (Bialek) Mahnke. He grew up and attended school in Sheboygan and graduated from high school there. He attended UND Aerospace. Bud married Vickie Kjelaas on June 19, 1982. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam War retiring after 20 years of service as a TSgt. In retirement Bud worked for the USDA as a grain inspector. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masons. Bud enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, re-enacting the Civil War, being a DJ, and Taxidermy. Bud is survived by his wife, Vickie Mahnke, Grand Forks; children, Paul (Brittney), Lake Havasu, AZ, Carrie (Russ) Sonnentag, Plymouth, WI, Michael, Grand Forks, Karen (Jason) Bindas, Bloomington, MN and Nancy (Christopher) Sorensen, Shakopee, MN; grandchildren, Abigail (Arthur) Bartlett, Grace Sonnentag, Christina Mahnke, Austin Mahnke, Linda Mahnke, Jeffrey Ollerich, Jessie Bindas, Logan Bindas, Kevin Sorensen and Isabelle Sorensen; Sisters, Lynn (Jeff) Frazier and Sandra(Louis) Raml both of Sheboygan, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother Michael. The family of Bud Mahnke would like to thank the nursing staff that cared for Bud during this difficult time for the excellent care they received. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 5:30 PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home.
