Joel Hastings

Joel T. Hastings, 38, died suddenly on Monday, August 19, 2013 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Joel Thomas Hastings was born November 19, 1974 to Rita (Phelps) Hastings and Jerry Hastings. It was the proudest moment of their lives together. Joel and his dad moved to Arizona when Joel was 4. He lived in Arizona until age 17 when he moved back to North Dakota for his senior year of high school. Joel married Terri McDonah in 1998. They were happy together and Joel gained a step-daughter, Jamie Erb, whom he loved deeply. On December 17, 1997 Joel and Terri had a son they named Jade Thomas Hastings. The whole family was ecstatic. In 2004 Joel met Kelly Ziegelmann and she forever changed his life. He had met the "love of his life". They enjoyed doing so many things together. I can't forget Jake! This dog was their constant companion. Joel was a passionate cook, always coming up with new creations. Joel was involved in so many things. He loved fishing which was a time he and his son spent together. Joel was on the pit crew of his son's racing team. He attended most of his son's hockey, baseball, and football games, times that he lived for. Watching his son grow and becoming a young man was the pride of Joel's life. Joel had a special bond with his cousing, Rhonda Phelps Anderson. They were so close in age and grew up together. She always held a special place in his heart. Joel is survived by his father, Jerry (Heidi) Hasting and their 2 children; his mother, Rita (Dean Urness); grandparents, Ronald and Clara Phelps and Willene Hastings. He had many cousins, aunts and uncles too numerous to mention. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Hastings. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. with the Funeral Service at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks.
