Robert "Bob" Bruce Demmers, 57, of Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, Sept., 3, 2013 in his home. Robert Bruce Demmers was born on October 31, 1955 in Dickinson, ND the son of Richard E. and Norma Jean (Wilz) Demmers. He attended school in Dickinson, ND until the 3rd grade, and then the family moved to Grand Forks where Bob attended school and graduated from Central High School in 1974. Bob was a member of the 1974 Central High School championship basketball team in 1974. He attended the University of North Dakota and graduated in 1986 with a degree in history and education. He married Deborah Ann Hoffarth in 1984 and they made their home in Grand Forks. Bob had worked the U.S. Postal Service since 1986. He served as the President of postal carriers union #517 for 12 years. For many years he also enjoyed being a referee for high school and college basketball and football games. Bob loved to travel with his wife Deb, reading the Herald, Minneapolis Tribune and the New York Times. He attended the union conventions in different cities every other year and always had a great time. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his two sons, they were very important to him. Robert is survived by his wife, Deb; sons, Josh (Letisha) and Lucas; sisters, Kathryn Valido, Cheyenne, WY and Judy (David) Ludtke, Grand Forks; brothers, Richard Demmers, Mesa, AZ, David (Jan) Demmers, White Bear Lake, MN; many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Norma; sister, Nancy Nelson; brother, Jon Demmers; and brother-in-laws John Valido and Al Nelson. A mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, September 9, 2013 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, 524 5th Ave. North, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks, ND. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
