M. Arnold "Arnie" Thompson, Grand Forks, died Monday, September 30, 2013 in Good Samaritan Heritage Grove, East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Merle Arnold Thompson was born October 8, 1926 to Thomas and Dorothy (Jopp) Thompson at Karlstad, Minnesota. He attended school at Karlstad. He served in the US Army at the end of World War II. He returned to Karlstad where he farmed for a few years. Arnie Thompson and Carole Dennison were united in marriage on October 13, 1951 at Karlstad. They lived at Karlstad before moving to Grand Forks in 1960. Arnie was employed by Dave's APCO in Grand Forks and was also employed in construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, canning, camping, boating, and rummage sales. Arnie is survived by his children, Randall (Soo-Yin) , Grand Forks, Reagan (Debra), East Grand Forks, MN, Robert (Sherry), Grand Forks, Kara Thompson (Danne Berglund), Des Moines, IA, Carolyn (Gene) Leppala, Shakopee, MN, Richard (Jenny), Soldatna, AK, Christina Thompson (Morgan Nation), Casper, WY; 18 grandchildren, 1 great-grandaughter; a brother, Arvid (Loryce) Thompson, East Grand Forks, MN; daughter-in-law, Linda Thompson, Grand Forks. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carole, a son, Ronald, a brother Vernon, and sister,Luella. Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks with visitation for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks.
