Beverly E. Matz, 81, Grand Forks, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Beverly Eleanor Thoe was born to Elmer Martin Thoe and Lucille (Konze) Thoe on February 28, 1932 at Langdon, North Dakota. She was raised and educated at Portland, Oregon. She moved to Washburn, ND, and later Bismarck, ND. Beverly Thoe and Mathias Matz were married on September 1, 1952 in Bismarck, ND. They lived in Mandan, ND and later moved to Ryder, ND where they owned and operated Matz Family Circle Grocery Store. They later moved to Devils Lake. She graduated with an associate of nursing degree from Lake Region Junior College. She became an LPN and was employed by Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, retiring in 1995. She moved to Grand Forks in 2001. Beverly loved reading, sewing, gardening, crafts, and collected cookbooks. She was an avid Sioux Hockey fan and dearly loved her family and her cats. Beverly is survived by her children, Sandra (Ken) Vogel, Dickinson, ND, Matt Matz, Reeder, ND, Karen Worthy, San Diego, CA, Jim (Marilyn) Matz, Rosemont, MN, Laura Hammond, Fargo, ND, Lisa (Keith) Avdem, Thornton, CO, Mary (Butch) Drake, Grand Forks, and Gerald Matz, Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Russell Thoe, and a sister, Lois Sibley. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Friday and one hour prior to the mass in the funeral home. Interment: 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Devils Lake Cemetery, Devils Lake, North Dakota Memorials: are preferred to Circle of Friends Humane Society, Grand Forks, ND
