Milton Manthei

Milton Milo Manthei, 89, Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Northwood Deaconess Nursing Home. Milt was born on February 13, 1924, to Julius Arthur Manthei and Lillian M. (Zachow) Manthei, in Kittson County, MN. He was raised on a farm and attended country grade schools. He attended and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1942. He worked on the family farm until 1948. In 1948 and part of 1949 he worked in the office of Land O'Lakes in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. From 1954 through 1968, he worked for Baukol Construction Company in Grand Forks and then worked the City of Grand Forks until he retired in 1986. Milton was united in marriage to Anne Kvasager of Oklee, MN, on June 28, 1958. Milt enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled aircraft, making wooden crosses for his grandchildren, and working in his flower garden. He has been a member of United Lutheran Church since 1958 and had actively volunteered at the church and at the church's Bible Camp, Camp Shalom. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Anne; children, Suzanne Nelson (John) of Apple Valley, MN, Diane of Grand Forks, David (Kathie) of Grand Forks; nine grandchildren, Adam Nelson, Megan Manthei, Sarah Nelson, Tyler Manthei, Joseph Nelson, Chad Manthei, Jared Manthei, Michelle Manthei and Corey Manthei. He is also survived by a sister, Muriel Walt (Keith) of Hollister, MO, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd (Nov. 11, 2009); younger brother Wallace, and older brother Harold. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, at United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St, Grand Forks, with a visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
