Owen L. Woodard, 86, Grand Forks, died Thursday, October 24, 2013 at home. Owen Lloyd Woodard was born July 28, 1927 in Frazee, Minnesota. In 1931 he moved to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota where he attended school until 1944 when he joined the US Navy. He served in the Navy until 1946 when he returned to Pelican Rapids to finish his education. He worked as a lineman for Lake Region Rural Electric. Owen married June Barbara Olson on September 4, 1949. He was employed by Martin Electric as a lineman in Underwood, North Dakota. They moved to Valley City, North Dakota where they lived until 1966 when he went to work at the Grand Forks Air Force Base Hospital. He retired as Facility Manager of the hospital in June 1991. On September 19, 2008 he married Mavis Larson, and they have lived in Grand Forks. Owen is survived by his wife, Mavis; son, Larry Woodard; daughter, Cheryl Mercer; 4 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, June, his son, Gregory, and his sister, Doris. Memorial Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 in Trinity Free Lutheran Church, 3426 Chestnut St., Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in church. Military Honors will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard. Inurnment will be at a later date in Middle Grove Cemetery.
