Eugene Ray Hougo, 62, Grand Forks, ND died Monday, November 25, 2013 in Altru Hospital. Eugene was born May 19, 1951 the son of Bernard and Emma (Wilson) Hougo in Grand Forks. He was raised in Thompson, ND where the family lived for many years before moving to California. They returned to Grand Forks where Eugene lived with his parents until May of 1989 when he moved into St. Anne's Guest Home. Eugene worked at Agassiz Enterprises in Grand Forks. Eugene had a special bond with the Grand Forks Police Officers and local law enforcement personnel. He was a frequently seen occupying a bench on University Avenue near Washington St., waving to police cars and others that passed. While in California, Eugene established special friendship with Rico Rose, a police officer that would often visit with Eugene. Eugene was an avid UND sports fan attending as many basketball and hockey games as he could. He was also a fan of all the Thompson athletic teams, the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. Eugene was a quiet, kind person who was well respected and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by a brother, James Hougo, Canyon Country, CA as well as his extended family, the staff and residents of St. Anne's Guest Home. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Anne's Guest Home, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be held at East Walle Cemetery, Thompson, ND.
