Joyce R. Bertelson

Joyce Bertelson, 61, Lengby, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on December 11, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. Joyce Havig was born and raised in Grand Forks. She started her cooking carer at UND Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and then moved on to the family's drive-in restaurant, the Riverside. Following the flood of 1997 she cooked for various establishments, lastly returning to UND to cook for the Alpha Phi Sorority. Joyce loved being at Spring Lake in Lengby, Minnesota. She loved working in the yard with her flowers and trees, and planned to retire there with her husband Mark in July, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Mark; son, James; brother, and sister-in-law, Terrance and Amy Havig; sister, Ilene Havig; brother-in-law, Jim Erickson; sister-in-law, Kathy Offut; and many nieces and nephews. She was greatly loved and will be forever missed by her family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks for the staff of Valley Eldercare Center and Altru Cancer Center for all of their support. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the "Angel Fund" at Valley Memorial Homes.
