Ellen M. Loing, 68, Grand Forks, ND, died Friday, January 3, 2014 in Altru hospital of Grand Forks. Ellen Marie Sigurdson was born July 9, 1945 in Grand Forks, the daughter of Halvor and Rudella (Heen) Sigurdson. She lived in East Grand Forks, MN and later moved to Grand Forks where she attended schools and graduated from Central High School in 1963. She worked for Jacoby's Restaurant after school and on weekends. Ellen graduated from Aaker's Business College then worked for many years at the Grand Forks Courthouse in both the Grand Forks County and Grand Forks City offices. She also worked for Sears and Kelly Services. Ellen married Willard "Willie" Loing on June 14, 1974 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of East Grand Forks. Together they owned and operated A-1 Lawn Service. They took great pride in their yard and were awarded Grand Forks Yard of The Year in 1989. Between their busy schedules, they loved traveling, camping, fishing, playing cards, going to local plays and music concerts and going to the casino. Willard Loing died April 12, 2006. Wherever Ellen was, she always had friends. She was a very charitable and giving person. She loved children even though she and Willie never had any of their own. She served in several chairs of the Eagle's Club and was also a member of the Grand Forks Senior Citizens and the Sons of Norway. Ellen is survived by two aunts, several cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Tuesday (today) January 7, 2013 in Calvary Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks.
