Carol Mae Kloster

Carol Kloster, age 79, of Grand Forks died Thursday, January 9th at Woodside Village, Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks. Born May 21,1934, in Grand Forks, Carol attended school in Buxton ND until 1952. She continued her education at the Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks. She graduated with an RN degree in 1955 and married Larry Carroll in 1957.They moved to a farm near Johnstown ND where their three sons were born. In addition to raising a family, Carol drove forty miles to work as an ambulance nurse. Later, she supervised the night shift at Deaconess and United hospitals until she was appointed Supervisor of the Renal Dialysis Unit at United Hospital. She formed lasting friendships with the patients and was a strong advocate for the kidney donor program. Her positive attitude carried her though recovery and survival from ovarian cancer, colon cancer, and a lymphoma. Carol served on the Midway School Board, and was active in the Forest River Community church and Deaconess Nurses Alumni Association. She is survived by two sons, Bret Carroll of Abbotsford, WI; Bart Caridio (Erica) of Cottage Grove, OR; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Carroll, Grosse Pointe, MI; five grandchildren, Grant, Megan and Ryan Carroll of Aurora, CO; Brianna Caridio of Eugene, OR; Katie Mae Carroll of Grosse Pointe, MI; a sister, Corinne Eliason of Grand Forks; brother Richard Camrud Jr.(Caroline) of Fargo; sisters-law, Natalie Camrud of Rochester; and Madelyne Camrud of Grand Forks. Many nephews, nieces and cousins survive as well as her significant and faithful friend, Vern Gilbertson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Malina Camrud; three husbands, Larry Carroll, Lanny Rogness, and Orvis Kloster; her eldest son, Rand; step-son, John Kloster; brothers, Idan, Omar, Ray and Ted; sisters-in law; Marcella Camrud and Lillian Camrud. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM-10:30AM followed by the memorial service at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 15, at United Lutheran church in Grand Forks. Arrangements are by Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Altru Health Foundation, Renal Dialysis Unit, 2501 DeMers Avenue, Grand Forks, ND 58201.
