Russell D. Holm, 83, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Russell Dale Holm was born in Grand Forks to Walter and C. Berniece (Claver) Holm on July 31, 1930. He attended country schools in Brenna Township, and graduated from Central High School in 1948. Russell served in the US Army from February 26, 1952 until February 12, 1954. Russell Holm and Berniece Karlsbraaten were united in marriage on June 5, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Esmond, North Dakota. They lived in Grand Forks where Russ worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone from which he retired in 1984. Russell enjoyed fishing, woodworking, electronics, and especially his grandchildren and their activities. He volunteered for several organizations including the Telephone Pioneers of America through the Talking Book Program at the North Dakota School for the Blind, Home Delivered Meals, and was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Berniece, Grand Forks; sons, Steven (Margaret) Holm, Cavalier, ND, Mark (Kathy) Holm, Grand Forks, Brian (Nancy) Holm, Grand Forks, and John (Danielle) Holm, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Vallely, Matthew Holm, Amy (Casey) Lindquist, Kris Holm, Scott (Grace) Holm, Karl Holm, Nicholas Holm and Jack Holm; great grandchildren, Lauren Vallely and McCabe Holm; sisters, Marian (Edward) VanDuyn, Grand Forks and Betty (David) Behl, Detroit Lakes, MN; sister-in-law, Donna Holm, Lake Stevens, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Darrell, and Bruce. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 in Wesley United Methodist Church, 1600 4th Ave North, Grand Forks. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Wesley United Methodist Church in Grand Forks.
