Violet M. Birkholz

February 2, 1921 — January 25, 2014

Violet Birkholz, formerly of Grand Forks, died Saturday, January 25th, 2014 in Long Beach, California, far removed from subzero temperatures and raging blizzards. Violet Mabel Birkholz was born to Alois and Antonia Kopecky near Tabor, Minnesota on a frigid Groundhog Day in 1921. In her teens, she spent time in St. Paul with her beloved Aunt Helen, and got a taste for Life In The Big City. Thus inspired, she moved to Grand Forks in 1941, where she went to work as an apprentice beautician for Norine Birkholz. Norine had a little brother, Marvin and one day, he offered to buy the very hungry young Violet lunch. It must have been a good lunch; Violet celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary on July 2nd of 2012. Together they saw the world. Violet is survived by her son Gene (Cherene) Birkholz of Long Beach, CA; nieces Pauline (Peter) Abbo , Eloise & Lois Raymond, Linda (Dick) Dollin, Armina Hennager, Louise Pesek, Lillian Weed, and Shirley (John) Dotson; nephews John & Vincent Morency, David (Linda) Kopecky, Eugene, Paul (Rita), & Ted (Pam) Vonasek, Kenneth & Bill (Jill) Kopecky; Sister-in Law Merle Kopecky. She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents, and siblings Edward Kopecky, Elsie Morency, Rudy Kopecky, Madeline Vonasek, Albin Kopecky, and Pauline Raymond. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
