Mary Lawrence

Mary J. Lawrence, 76, Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Mary Joanne Unwin was born November 13, 1937 in Williston, ND, the daughter of Dudley and Lila (Runnestrand) Unwin. She grew up and attended schools in Barton, ND and Minot, ND. After she graduated from high school, she worked for the Civil Air Patrol. Mary married George Lawrence on August 2, 1955 in Minot. They lived briefly on the east coast, then returned to Minot before moving to Grand Forks in 1961. Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, writing poetry and being a mom. Survivors include her children, daughters, Patty Sawyer, Northwood, ND, Peggy (Tim) Rogers, Pam Ramey, Becky (John) Kay, and Jenny (Dan) Stevenson all of Grand Forks; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Paul (Kathy) Unwin, Ft. Meyers, FL; sisters, Patricia (Darren) Swanson, Arkansas, Lila (Patrick) McLean, St. Paul, MN and Beverly Lessard, Widefield, CO. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George; by her parents and by a brother, John. Funeral Services will be private.
