Danny Blaine Martin

Danny Blaine Martin, 74, of Emerado, ND, passed away on March 8, 2014 at Altru Hospital after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Danny was born May 16, 1939, in Grand Forks, the eldest son of Robert & Mabel (Marshall) Martin. He graduated from the Emerado High School and furthered his education at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. Danny served 2 years in the US Army. He worked at Baseview Champlain for several years until he started farming. He married Janice Holweger on June 30, 1967 at the Zion Methodist Church in Grand Forks. Danny and Jan lived and farmed in Emerado. Over the years Danny enjoyed stock car racing, square dancing, hunting, and competitive shooting. He was an active member of the Emerado Presbyterian Church where he was currently serving as Clerk of Session. Danny was also a lifetime member of the Forks Rifle Club. Since retiring from farming, the joy of his life has been his 6 grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jan of 46 years; son, Matthew (Heather) Martin of Lansford, ND; daughters, Nicole (Sean) Sands of Thornton, CO, and Merry (Scott) Knudsvig of Minot, ND; grandchildren, Connor, Callie and Cole Martin, Hayden and Grace Sands and Sam Knudsvig; sister, Sally (Marlin) Jacobson of Grand Forks; brothers, Lee Martin of Grand Forks, Steve (Barb) Martin of Emerado, and several nieces and nephews. Danny was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rodney. **In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Altru Cancer Center or the Oncology floor of the Altru Hosptial. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Emerado Presbyterian Church in Emerado. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service on Friday, March 14th at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND 58201.
