Dorothy Eileen Schmiess

Dorothy Eileen Schmiess, 81, of Grand Forks passed away unexpectedly on March 12, 2014 at Altru Hospital. Dorothy was born June 26, 1932 in Beaver Flat, Saskatchewan to the parents of Jacob and Katie (Eurich) Meyer. She married Elmer Schmiess on July 11, 1951. They celebrated 62 blessed years of marriage. Dorothy's devotion to her faith, family and friends guided her life. She was a dedicated labor and delivery nurse for 20 years. She shared her gifts by teaching Sunday school, piano, and choir. She was an active member of Chapter T, PEO. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Elmer, 4 children: Pamela (Kevin) Carlson, Kelli (Bob) Schmiess, Bonni (Brian) Gourneau, and Ronda (Todd) Pokrzywinski, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Her smile, wit, and unconditional love will be dearly missed by all the lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Patty Lane. A memorial service celebrating her life will be Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND 58201. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service.
