Bernice H. Miller, 90, Grand Forks and formerly of Mekinock, ND died Friday, March 14, 2014 in the Good Samaritan Nursing Center of Larimore, ND. Bernice H. Heen was born May 25, 1923 in Mekinock, ND the daughter of Halfred and Bennia (Johnson) Heen. She was raised and educated in Mekinock. Bernice married Earl Miller on November 16, 1941 in Mekinock. They lived and farmed near Kelly's Slough until Earl's passing on May 6, 1981. Bernice worked at the American Opinion Bookstore in the South Forks Plaza Shopping Center. She moved to Grand Forks in 1991. Bernice was a volunteer election official. She enjoyed embroidery, baking, playing the organ, crossword puzzles and word finds. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Survivors include her daughters, Eileen (Bernie) Milum, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Carole Olson, Williston, ND; nine grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; a daughter, Barbara Miller; one brother and two sisters. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Middle Grove Cemetery near Mekinock in the spring.
