Phyllis Benser

Phyllis Marguerite Benser, 94, East Grand Forks, MN, Loving wife, Mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, in 4000 Valley Square - Woodside Village, Grand Forks, ND. She was born in Grand Forks, ND on Dec. 5, 1919 to Hildur & Hans Falkanger. She graduated from Grand Forks Central in 1937, and went on to attend the Nursing School at the University of North Dakota. While there, she met Leo C. Benser of Bismarck, ND and on September 7, 1940, they were married. She worked in the health care field for over 35 years at Deaconess Hospital, United Hospital, and Altru Hospital. She was active at United Lutheran Church, the Red Hat Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and many card clubs which she attended every week. She was an amazing artist, with portraits being her specialty. Phyllis was a proud and avid fan of Sioux Sports. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Leo C. Benser; sisters, Genevieve Weller, Mildred Rygh, Ruth Moen; Brother, Howard Falkanger. She is survived by daughters, Bonita (David) Dangerfield, Barbara Heffner; son, Robert (Karen) Benser; grandchildren, Dr. Jon (Cheryl) Dangerfield, Joel Dangerfield, Jan Lofberg, Melissa Heffner, Jennifer (Mark) Berryman, Ryan Benser, and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation and viewing will be from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. Monday in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks. The family prefers memorials to the United Lutheran Church Radio Broadcast Fund.
