Margaret Anne Knoell, 50, of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away Monday April 14, 2014 in Altru Hospital surrounded by her family. Margaret Anne Knoell was born January 13, 1964 in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of James and Patricia (Keane) Quinn. Margaret graduated high school in Independence, Kansas and attended college in Kansas and Texas. In 1988 Margaret graduated from the California Highway Patrol Academy and began her tour of duty as a Highway Patrol Officer in El Centro, California where she met her future husband Jim. Margaret married James W. Knoell on December 15, 1991 in Holtville, California. Since, they have resided in El Centro, CA, Marfa, TX and Grand Forks, ND. After 8 years on the Highway Patrol she took a few years off work to raise her daughters after Jim was transferred to Texas with the U.S. Border Patrol. Later she was hired by the Border Patrol in Marfa, Texas and was the current Branch Chief for Work Force Management at the Grand Forks Border Patrol Sector Headquarters. Margaret was full of life and loved time spent with family and friends. She enjoyed singing and performed the National Anthem at many local events. She had immense fun vacationing with her husband Jim and close friends. Margaret was an absolute joy to be around and will be truly missed by all that knew her. Margaret is survived by her husband Jim; daughters Caitlin and Megan; her father James Casey Quinn; her sisters, Mary (Jim) Lee and Kathleen Quinn; brothers, Michael (Olivia) Quinn and Jamie (Christina) Quinn. She was preceded in death by her mother Patricia and brother George. A funeral mass will take place on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. Micheal's Catholic Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be for two hours before the service in the church.
