Fred Grant Meyer of of Grand Forks, N.D., passed away April 15, 2014. He was born in Benkelman, Neb., December 30, 1937 to Lee and Mary (Snyder) Meyer. He grew up in Riverdale, N.D., and married Denise Meyer there in 1959. He attended the University of North Dakota, where he was one of the founders of the UND Flight Club and proudly constructed portions of the club's first headquarters at the airport. Fred worked in the Computer Center at UND for many years before moving to Elkhart, Ind., as a Systems Engineer with Amdahl Computer Corp. He worked with various customers supporting the Amdahl mainframe computers, later retiring in Bloomington, Ind., from his last assignment with Indiana University in 2002. He returned to Grand Forks shortly thereafter, where he spent the remaining years of his life storytelling with his family and gardening with his faithful dogs by his side. Fred is survived by his wife, Denise, son Mike (Kaye Lynn) and daughter Betsy, grandchildren Tony, Danny and Alyssa Meyer, Bianca, Haley, Ben and Noah Bina, and Lily Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Joshua Meyer, as well as his stepfather, Harry Poppaw, sister-in-law Diane Schlosser, and brother-in-law, Ben Brundage. A reception will be held in his honor on Saturday, May 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Amundson Funeral Home in Grand Forks. Interment will be in late spring.
