Dorothy Horner

Dorothy L. Horner, 91, Grand Forks, ND, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 in Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks. Dorothy Lavina Ferry was born December 22, 1922 at the family farm in Wamduska Township south of Lakota, ND to Arlie and Katie (Keitzman) Ferry. She attended rural schools and Lakota High School. She lived in Bremerton, WA during WWII and worked in the Bremerton Shipyards. Dorothy later moved to Grand Forks and married Ralph Horner in 1948. She worked at Pillsbury for 35 years. She also worked at the election polls and the Sunday afternoon Bingo games at the VFW both of which gave her a chance to visit with friends and acquaintances. Dorothy enjoyed volunteering her time to the Santa Claus Girls, the Degree of Honor organization and attending Ladies Aide meetings at Wesley United Methodist Church. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and having Sunday dinner with them as often as possible. Survivors include her children, Bob (Sally) Horner, Judy Shafer and Greg (Becky) Horner, all of Grand Forks, Janice Minton, Harlingen, TX, and Linda (Gilbert) Segovia, Thornton, CO; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers, Leslie (Jan) Ferry, Lakota, ND, Arlie (Marilyn) Ferry, Hugo, MN and Virgil (Mary) Ferry, Hartford, WI; sister, Donna Garske, Milbank, SD. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Horner who died shortly after his birth. Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in Wesley United Methodist Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks, ND. The family prefers memorials be directed to The Santa Claus Girls or Wesley United Methodist Church.
