Karen Lynn Schelinder

December 16, 1947 — May 17, 2014

Karen Lynn (DeJong) Schelinder was born December 16, 1947, in Willmar, Minnesota to Bernice (Niemeyer) and Cornelius (Cornie) DeJong. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, Minnesota. Karen grew up in Clara City graduating from Clara City High School in 1965. She attended Golden Valley Lutheran College graduating in 1967. She was united in marriage to the Rev. Roger Schelinder on December 28, 1968 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children. Roger, Karen and family lived in Remer, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota. Karen continued living in Grand Forks following Roger's death in October 17, 2001. Karen's faith did move mountains. In her final hours she asked for her Jesus to "come for me now. " Her whole life exemplified this faith. This was done in her work at Valley Memorial Homes, River Valley Community Action and Options. She was soft hearted yet knew what had to be done. Her life was dedicated to the extensive outreach to others. Left on this earth to carry on her faith are her son Jeffrey (Kristi) of Colfax, ND; daughter Roxanne of Grand Forks, ND; son Christopher (Connie) of Grand Forks, ND; her beloved grandchildren Joshua, Bruce, Douglas, Noah, Nyla, and Samantha; six great grandchildren; and her brother David (Anne) of Jackson, MN. Those going before her were her husband Roger and her parents Bernice and Cornie DeJong. Blessed be the memory of Karen Lynn Schelinder. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM in University Lutheran Church, 2122 University Ave., Grand Forks. Visitation will be on Tuesday (today) from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM at University Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be at East Walle Cemetery, rural Thompson, ND.
