Violet L. Grove

Violet L. Grove, 90, of Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 surrounded by her family, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Violet L. Johnson was born on April 21, 1924 in Buxton, ND, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Stadstad) Johnson. She was raised in Buxton and graduated from the Buxton Public Schools. Violet went on to attend and graduate from Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, ND. While attending Aakers in Grand Forks, Violet stayed with her aunt, Gerda Ness, who, along with her husband, Rev. O.T. Ness, were part of the founding fathers of the Valley Memorial Homes. After college, Violet was employed as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Union Elevator in Buxton. She then worked for a brief period at the Farmers Union State Offices in Jamestown, after which she accepted a position of Head Bookkeeper at the ASC Office in Hillsboro. It was during that period of time that Violet met Hillsboro farmer Arthur E. Grove and they were married Dec. 30, 1965 in a ceremony at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton. Violet and Arthur lived and farmed East of Hillsboro until they retired and moved to Grand Forks in 1987. In the past four years Violet resided in Woodside Village at Valley 4000 until her recent death. Violet enjoyed a wide variety of experiences. She traveled extensively both before and after marriage, having visited Europe, Scandinavia, Canada, Alaska, and most major parts of the USA. Reading and cross word puzzles were daily pastimes and all manner of crafts played major roles in her life. Throughout her life Violet was devoted to her family. Violet is survived by her husband, Arthur E. Grove, Grand Forks; Arthur's son, Douglas (Ruby) Grove, Grand Forks; sister, Jacquelyn (Joseph) Hegstad, Scottsdale, AZ; sister-in-law, Claire (Allan) Johnson, Buxton, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Donald, Douglas, Allan and Lloyd, and sister-in-law, Florence (Douglas) Johnson. If anyone wishes to send a memorial in memory of Violet, they may send it to Valley Memorial Homes, Calvary Lutheran Church, or a foundation of their own choosing. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 2:00 in Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be on Monday, June 9, 2014 from 5 to 7 with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks. Interment will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
