Alice Marie (Opperud) Johnson, 93, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, at Woodside Village Nursing Home, surrounded by her children. Alice was born September 4, 1920 to Oluf and Thea (Enger) Opperud in Bemidji, MN. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1938 and went on to attend one year at Moorhead State Teacher's College. Alice married Earl Johnson on November 9, 1940 in Crookston, MN. They farmed near Nielsville, MN until 1970 when they retired and moved to Jacobson, MN. After Earl's death, she returned to Grand Forks. Alice managed East View Apts. for 25 years and retired due to her health.in 2005 when she became a resident of Woodside Village, where she resided until her death. She was an active member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, Nielsville, Jacobson Lutheran Church in Jacobson, MN and Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Alice enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, reading, crocheting afghans, making lefse and sharing these talents with her family and friends. Alice led Bible studies and was always ready to share her faith with anyone. She really enjoyed the company of others and had a deep concern for her family. Survivors include one daughter, Sonia (Jerry) Hovet, Mesa, AZ, three sons, Bruce (Pam) Johnson, Caledonia, ND, Brian (Kathy) Johnson, Grand Forks, ND, and Brent Johnson of Tucson, AZ, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, LaVaun Swanson, West Fargo, ND, Gloria (Gordy) Oihus, Roseburg, Oregon, Eleanor (Luther) Ness, Mesa, AZ, one sister-in-law, Gladys Opperud, and one brother-in-law, Arnie Hoffe, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Earl, sister MaryLou Hoffe, brothers Lloyd Opperud, Raymond Opperud; Step-mother, Stella (Patenaude) Opperud; grandson, Michael Johnson, great-granddaughter, Katie Burris, twin great grandsons, Christian Marc and Scott Chase Ogrodowski. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 20 at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service at the church.
