David A Peterson

David A. Peterson passed away at Altru Hospital on Tuesday July 1, 2014. David was born in Grand Forks on January 24, 1949 to Melvin and Violet (Achttien) Peterson. David attended Grand Forks Public Schools graduating in 1968. He then went to work for the University of North Dakota in the Dining Services Department. He retired from UND in 2012 after 44 years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, UND Sioux hockey games and spending time at the family lake cabin on Birch Beach at Lake of the Woods. He had great times fishing with the annual Wesley Methodist Canadian fishing trips. Family was important to him and he loved spending time with his niece and nephew and great nieces and nephew. In December 2012 David suffered a stroke and lived at Tufte Manor for the last year and a half. David was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Dave is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Sharon & Jim Holter of Grand Forks; nephew, Jeffery (Becky) Holter and their children, Katie, Emily, and Nathan Holter all of South Range, WI and his niece Kari Holter also of Grand Forks. He is also survived by his uncles John (Char) Achttien of Marble Falls, TX and Donald Achttien of Sugar Land, TX; and an aunt Carol (Duane) Knutson of Colorado, Springs, CO as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin & Violet and grandparents Jake and Lura Achttien and Arthur and Alma Peterson; uncle Lyall (Norma) Peterson, aunts RosaLee Achttien and Vickie Achttien-Sarro. Services will be Monday July 7, 2014 at 11AM at Wesley United Methodist Church Grand Forks. Viewing will be 1 hour prior to the service.
