Viola Martinson

March 27, 1924 — July 4, 2014

Viola Martinson, 90, Grand Forks, died Friday, July 4, 2014 at her home, surrounded by family. Viola Pearl (Lovejoy) Martinson, daughter of Oliver and Clara (Rime) Lovejoy was born March 27, 1924 at Northwood, ND. She grew up in the Northwood area, graduated from Northwood High School in 1942. She entered nurses training in Grafton the fall of 1942, transferred to Grand Forks Deaconess Nursing School 1944, and graduated in 1945. Viola married Medvin Martinson of Hoople, ND on March 12, 1946. They farmed in the Kempton, Webster, and Northwood areas also lived in Hatton and Grand Forks. Medvin and Viola retired from farming at Northwood in 1979. Medvin passed away Dec 5, 1995. Viola continued to live in Grand Forks, ND. Viola was active in Gideon's Auxiliary, Child Evangelism and church. She enjoyed crocheting and other hand work. She enjoyed her children, grand-children, and great grand-children. She is survived by 2 sons, Jerry (Judi) Martinson of Northwood, ND and Tom Martinson of Trimble, MO; daughter in-law, Denise Martinson, Grand Prairie, TX; nine grand-children, Lisa Martinson of Northwood, ND, Amy (Larry) Cronin, Rachel (Kevin) Anderson of Larimore, ND, Brian (Rachel) Martinson of Sharon, ND, Beth (Jaceson) Jennings, Eric (Amy) Martinson, Jill Martinson, all of Grand Prairie, TX, Kara (Daniel) Koelsch, Heartland, TX, and Corey Martinson, Grand Prairie, TX; and multiple great grand-children. Viola is also survived by a sister-in-law Adelyn (Robert) Mohagen of Yakima, WA, brother-in-law Wendell (Janice) Martinson of Hoople, ND and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Medvin, parents, son Richard, grandson Nathan and step brother Allard Hegre. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Faith Evangelical Free Church, 1400 24th Ave South, Grand Forks with visitation from 12:00 to 12:45 prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery, Northwood, North Dakota. Memorials are preferred to Child Evangelism Fellowship, or the Gideons.
