Berneice J. Bergrud

Berneice Jane (Vannatta) Bergrud of Arvada, CO, formerly from Grand Forks and Bremen ND, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO. Berneice Vannatta was born to Henry and Eva Vannatta on October 30, 1935, in Aylmer, ND. She attended school in Bremen, ND and New Rockford, ND. She married Raymond Bergrud at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bremen, ND, on November 13th, 1953. Raymond and Berneice lived in Bremen, ND, and raised their family. In 1979 they moved to Grand Forks, ND. Berneice worked at the J C Penney store in Grand Forks, ND, from 1980 until 1995. Raymond passed away on May 25th, 2002. Berneice moved to Arvada CO in 2010. Berneice loved her family, her "stories", popcorn, movies and sunshine. Berneice was known for baking the best homemade buns and putting up delicious rhubarb sauce. She was always ready to travel to new places. Berneice leaves behind son, James (Diane) Bergrud of Grand Forks, ND, and daughter Peggy (Smokey) Barnes of Arvada, CO. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Matt (Bre) Peterson, Chris Bergrud, Megan Peterson, Josh Bergrud and step grandchild, Nick (Kym) Barnes. She leaves 5 great grandchildren; Taytum, Gavin, Tyson, Jayse and Jaxon. She is also survived by brothers Julius, Lyle and Vernon Vannatta and sisters Violet Nilson and Linda Pierce, and their families. Berneice is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Eva Vannatta and her husband, Raymond. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in the funeral home and will continue for the hour before the service. Burial will be 3:00 PM Tuesday in Prairie Home Cemetery of New Rockford, ND. Online guest registry available at www.amundsonfuneralhome.com.
