Curtis G. Hanson

Northwood, graduating from Northwood High School in 1942. He attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks before entering the US Army in March 1945. He married Frances Tweten on January 28, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton, ND. After leaving the US Army, Curt and Frances moved to Minneapolis where Curt worked for Farmers Insurance. They returned to Grand Forks where Curt sold cars for Valley Motors before buying and building up five credit bureaus in the region over the next 27 years until his retirement. Curt enjoyed fishing and hunting, growing gardens and flowers, and he loved his fruit trees in Arizona. Curt was very proud of the fact that he was the Commander of the American Legion in Grand Forks. Frances and Curt enjoyed time with good friends in Arizona during the winter for over 25 years until Frances's illness and death in 2008. He spent most of his last years at his beloved Parkwood Place. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Brian and a granddaughter Samantha Skavlem. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn (Richard) Skavlem, Grand Forks, and sons Bruce (Mary), Grand Forks, and Gary (Karen), Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Chelsea (Jason) King, Jeffrey (Andrea) Hanson, Amy (Randy) Knudsvig, Jonathan (Kristin) Hanson, Catherine Hanson (engaged to Karl Riesen), and Michael Hanson; and 7 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Memorials may be given to the Calvary Lutheran Church building fund. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
