Shirley Cascaden

November 1, 1919 — July 31, 2014

Shirley Madeline Cascaden, 94, Grand Forks, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Mapleview Memory Care Community. She was born November 1, 1919, in York, ND. She grew up in Leeds and York, and graduated from York High School as valedictorian of her class. She eloped on May 5, 1942, with the love of her life, Bryce W. Cascaden. They were married in Crookston, MN. After his service overseas in WWII, his teaching career took them from York to Rock Lake, Cando, Webster, and Wyndmere, before they settled in Grand Forks, in 1957 with their two sons, Lanny and Lancey. Besides running the household, she also worked for many years at Hegstrom's Office Supply, First Federal S&L, and GF Public Schools Food Service Office. Bryce passed away August 17, 2002, after 60 years of marriage. Old age and Alzheimer's disease finally took their toll on Mom, but even to the end, her loving, caring, forgiving, nature remained. And the world was a better place for her having been here. She is survived by her sons Lanny, Tucson, AZ and Lancey, Grand Forks. She was preceded in death by husband Bryce, brother William, mother Fannie (Johnson) Dushane, and stepfather Clement Dushane. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in Wesley United Methodist Church, Grand Forks. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service in the church.
