John Schanilec

John Herman Schanilec, age 53 of Grand Forks, North Dakota and formerly of Minto passed away on Wednesday, August 6th 2014 in his home. John was born August 4th, 1961 in Grafton, ND to Herman and Bernice (Campbell) Schanilec. He grew up and attended school in Minto, graduating from Minto High School in 1979. He attended AVTI in East Grand Forks for farm mechanics and management. He married Amy Wolfgram on April 24, 1982 in Niagara, ND. He farmed with his family near Minto until the late 1990's and later sold crop insurance. Most recently, John made his home in Grand Forks working as a security officer at the Alerus Center. He is survived by his sons: Tony (Laura) Schanilec of Callender, IA; Alex (Renae) Schanilec of Grand Forks and Matthew Schanilec of West Fargo; his father Herman Schanilec of Portland, OR; siblings: Noel Schanilec Sr. of Grand Forks; Robin (Russ) Doll of New Salem, ND; Kelly Schanilec of Park Rapids, MN and Peggy (Scott) Lutovsky of Voss, ND. John had one granddaughter, Avery Emma (Tony and Laura). He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother, and his brother Patrick. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 11, 2014 in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church.
