Karen Marie Rysavy

July 8, 1961 — August 17, 2014

Karen Marie Rysavy, 53, died Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Karen was born July 8, 1961, in Grand Forks to George and Lillian (Ryba) Rysavy. She lived her entire life in Grand Forks and attended public schools there. When Karen and her Mom could no longer stay in their home on North Fifth Street they had several happy years living together at Parkwood Place. After her Mom's death in 2007, Karen moved to a group home in Grand Forks and had recently moved to an assisted living apartment. For most of her adult life Karen worked at Aggasiz Enterprises, and was the first client to be asked to serve on the Board of Directors at Aggasiz. She also ushered and volunteered in the office at Sharon Lutheran Church, and received the Social Capital Award from Development Homes. Karen stayed very active in the community through her involvement in numerous groups and activities, including Special Olympics, art classes at Development Homes, and the Listen Drop-In Center Performing Arts Group. She was especially proud of her participation in the musical "Grease" with the Performing Arts Group. More than anything, Karen loved family get-togethers where she could visit with her large extended family. She also enjoyed music, old television shows, and dancing, particularly the Friday night dances at the Listen Drop-In Center. Karen loved the Lord, and was proud of her Lutheran faith. Karen is survived by her brothers, James (Marlyce) Rysavy, Corpus Christi, TX, Don (Brenda) Rysavy, Bismarck, ND, a special cousin, Darlene Haave, Warren, MN, her large extended family, and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lillian Rysavy. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff members at Development Homes, Aggasiz, Listen Drop-In Center, Special Olympics, and Parkwood Place who provided care, services, and friendship to Karen. Memorials in Karen's name may be made to the Listen Drop-In Center Performing Arts Group. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks.
