She grew up on a farm near Edmore with her six siblings - Astrid, Art, Selmer (Chuck), Ellen, Orlando, and Arne. In the early 1940s, Myrtle moved to Grand Forks, where she met her future husband, Ernest Fladeland. They were married on July 29th, 1943, and moved to the Fladeland homestead. They farmed with Ernest's mother, Bessie Trydahl Fladeland and raised their three children on the farm. Throughout her life, Myrtle took pride in hard work. She was an active participant in farming, driving a sugar beet truck, tending a garden, and cooking for her family. She was a talented baker, making wonderful homemade bread and lefse along with her mother-in-law, Bessie. Myrtle and her family were active members of the St. Olaf Lutheran congregation, where Myrtle worked on countless projects with the Ladies Aid. Her hobbies included sewing, baking, and quilt making. Myrtle always had a kind heart and was quick to help others. She was a wonderful caretaker during extended illnesses to her mother-in-law, Bessie, as well as her sister Astrid and cousin, Glenna. Myrtle also took loving care of her husband, Ernest, for the last several years of his life. One of the highlights in Myrtle's life was the birth of her three grandchildren. Myrtle and Ernest thoroughly enjoyed being part of their lives, which included attending sporting events, concerts, birthday celebrations, and the Polk County Fair. Myrtle was a caring and giving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by those who had the privilege to know her. Myrtle is survived by her children, Roger Fladeland, Grand Forks ND; Connie Fladeland (Steve Fox), Wayzata MN; and Myrna (Mike) Moore, Fertile MN; grandchildren Max (Lindsey) Moore, Fargo ND; Marshall (Nikki) Moore, St. Paul MN; Meredith Moore (Travis Braget), Maple Grove MN; great grandchild, Lydia Moore; sister, Ellen Mielke, Washington DC; and many nieces and nephews.
