William Sylvester Marshall

William S. Marshall, 98, died Friday, August 29, 2014 at his home in rural Emerado, ND. William Sylvester Marshall, 98, of Emerado, ND, passed away on August 29,2014 at home surrounded by his loving wife Carol and stepchildren. William was born on a farm North of Thompson, N.D. on Februrary 23,1916. He grew up on various farms in the Emerado area. His love for the land and his horses was evident with his lifestyle. He entered the army in 1942 and received the purple heart for his heroic action in WW II. He married Gladys Con in 1943, and they raised 3 children William, Barbara, and James. In 1994 his wife died. Then in 1995 he married Carol Reidy and with that marriage gained 3 step children Annie, Tina, and John. William and Carol enjoyed many of the same interests and hobbies. They enjoyed growing a large garden and raising horses together. Besides farming William drove school bus for Emerado for 33 years. William was loved so much by everyone that knew him and will be missed. William leaves his beloved wife Carol of 18 years, his 3 children: Will (Brenda) Marshall of East Grand Forks, MN, Barbara (Sid) Hanson of Merrill, WI, and James (Connie) Marshall of Emerado, ND; 3 stepchildren: Annie (Dave) Torgerson of East Grand Forks, MN, Tina (Joe) Forte of Long Island NY, and John (Ricarda) Reidy of Crossville, TN; 12 grandchildren, 7 stepgrandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Molly Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver Marshall and Clara Taylor, and his sisters Mable Martin and Clara. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, at Kindom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in East Grand Forks, MN. VISITATION: One hour prior to the service. INTERMENT: Emerado Cemetery, Emerado, ND. Arrangements Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
