Adelie "Tuts" Miley, 102, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Valley Eldercare with family by her side. Adelie Johnson was born in Grand Forks on June 3, 1912 to Christian and Cornelia (Olson) Johnson. She grew up in Grand Forks and on the family farm at Winger, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Norwegian Lutheran Church. After graduating from Grand Forks Central High School, Adelie worked as a bookkeeper in the family's creamery businesses in Grand Forks and Langdon, ND. Her father made several trips back to Denmark and Tuts enjoyed the opportunity to travel and meet her Danish cousins. She later moved to Los Angeles and, during WWII, worked in a factory producing war materials. On January 18, 1946, Adelie was united in marriage to Max M. Miley in Santa Monica, CA, and they made their home in Whittier and in Upland. Max passed away in 1984, and Adelie returned to Grand Forks in 2003, residing at Alcott Manor, Tufte Manor, and VEC. Tuts is survived by her sister Evangeline Barquin of Tampa, FL and 21 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Max, brothers Truman and Col. Vernon Johnson; and sisters Valborg Thompson, Dagmar Satrom, Oda Johnson, and Connie Garske; a niece and a nephew. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park North Cemetery on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 3:00 PM with Chaplain Gwen Bazajou of Valley Eldercare officiating.
