Carol "Corky" McKinnon, 74, Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Sanford Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota. Carol Roberta Stauning was born to Walter Stauning and Alva (Amble) Stauning on June 21, 1940 in Grand Forks. She was educated in the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks Public Schools, graduating from East Grand Forks Senior High School. She attended UND and graduated from Aaker's Business College. Corky was a devoted mother and wife and was overjoyed and proud of being both. She was also a co-owner of furniture stores at different times of her life in California and Minnesota as well as worked at the Home of Economy in East Grand Forks. Her joy in life was to make others happy; whether it was by giving the postman banana bread or a young child a $2 bill to anything in between, she loved to see others smile. She was unconditionally loved by so many and will remain in our hearts as she was truly one of a kind. Corky is survived by her husband, George "Judd" McKinnon, Grand Forks; children, Brandon Lavelle, Oakdale, MN, and Kimberly (Brian) Melin and their children, Paige and Payton Melin, San Antonio, TX; step-children, Michael (Eric) McKinnon, New York, NY, Laura Knox and her son, Christian Knox, Grand Forks, Suzanne (Alan) Netzer and their children, Eden Volk and Grace Netzer, Grand Forks; siblings, Tom (Marie) Amundson, Grand Forks, Linda Amundson, Las Vegas, NV, Judy (Ron) Haney, Gran d Forks, Darlene (Rick) Noyes, East Grand Forks, MN, Janice (Bill) Ferguson, Grand Forks, Bonnie (Don) Vonasek, East Grand Forks, and Ronald Amundson, Grand Forks; step-father, Jack Landon, East Grand Forks. She is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Gary Amundson. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 8, 2014 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks and one hour prior to the mass in church. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 215 Belmont Rd., Grand Forks. Interment will be in Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks. The family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Northlands Rescue Mission, Alzheimers Association, or the charity of the donor's choice.
