John Simon Moritz

John Simon Moritz, 74, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, after a short illness. John Simon Moritz was born on December 20, 1939 in Jamestown, ND, the son of Ferdinand and Agatha (Stroh) Moritz. He grew up and attended school in Eckelson, ND. After graduating from high school John received his teaching certificate and Bachelor's degree from Valley City State Teachers College. He taught in Page and Medina, ND before moving to Grand Forks in 1966 where he taught language arts and social studies at South Junior High School. John then earned his Master's in Education from UND. John married Darlene Neste on August 12, 1972. Together they raised five children. John enjoyed spending time with his family and also loved to hunt, fish, read and talk about history. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Darlene; sons, Brian of Palo Alto, CA, Douglas of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Sullivan, Grand Forks, Laurie (Adam) Kuhn of Grand Forks, Amy of Montgomery Village, MD; grandchildren, Andrew and Brandon Sullivan, Trenton Moritz, Aubry, Ashton, Ella and Evan Kuhn; sister, Theresia Moritz of Sanborn, ND. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. Michael's Catholic Church, 524 5th Ave. N., Grand Forks. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St, Grand Forks, and also for the hour before the service in the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
