Mavis Hanson

Mavis Hanson, 86, Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Mavis Odegaard was born September 5, 1928 near Kloten, ND the daughter of Ed and Maria K. Odegaard. She was raised and educated near Kloten ND, on a farm in Griggs County. Mavis graduated from business college in Fargo, ND then worked for Pioneer Mutual Insurance of Fargo. Mavis married Philemon "Phil" Hanson on June 30, 1951. They moved to Grand Forks in 1954. Mavis worked as a computer key punch operator at the Grand Forks Air Force Base for many years. They later moved to Seattle. WA, where she worked for the Rail Road. They returned to Grand Forks in 1970. Mavis enjoyed time at Lake Sarah, their second home, painting pictures, grandkids and great grandkids, and also watching birds at the lake. Survivors include her sons Bruce (Martie) Hanson, Grand Forks and Bradley Hanson, Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, Royd (Megan) Hanson, Burnsville, MN and Candace (Carlos) Garcia, San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Brendon, Nate and Gabe. Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Phil in 2012; son Brian in 2003, by a sister Borghild and by brothers, Theodore and Reuben. Funeral Services will be 2:30 PM Friday, September 19, 2014 in United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
