Eleanor Tupa

Eleanor M. Tupa, 90, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Larimore, North Dakota. Eleanor Haugen was born at Honeyford, North Dakota on October 15, 1923 to Peter and Jessie (Lund) Haugen. She was raised and educated at Honeyford and graduated from Gilby High School. Eleanor enjoyed working with her dad and brothers on the farm. She graduated from Mayville State Teachers College and later attended UND. She taught in schools at Pisek, Niagara, Inkster and the Unity High School at Petersburg, ND. Eleanor Haugen and Joseph Tupa were united in marriage on February 10, 1945 in Abilene, Texas. They lived at rural Fordville, North Dakota and later at Niagara, Petersburg and Northwood, North Dakota. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Lutheran Daughters of Reformation, the Niagara Homemakers for over 50 years, served as President of North Dakota Education Association and a member of more than 60 years of the American Legion Auxiliary in Inkster, Petersburg, and Larimore. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crafts and especially cooking and baking for holiday family meals. Eleanor loved to be together with her family time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Paul (Sharon) Tupa, and Debbie (Ed) Evenstad, all of Northwood, ND; grandchildren, Chad (Brook) Tupa, Circle Pines, MN, Trisha (Bryan) Rogers, Forest Lake, MN, Matthew (Sonia) Tupa, Northwood, ND, Jessica (Russell) Clark, Boise, ID, Tony (Kate) Evenstad, Northwood, ND and Timmy Evenstad, Northwood; great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Paige, and Nathan Rogers, Taylor Tupa; siblings, Boyd Haugen, Larimore, ND, Muriel Overby, Cooperstown, ND, Margaret Garrett, Orangevale, CA, Orvis (June) Haugen, Gilby, ND, Kathryn (Bob) Ersland, Kenyon, MN; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, Dorothy Tupa, grandson, Corey Paul Tupa, sister-in-law, Helen and brothers-in-law, Alph and Dean. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service in the funeral home. Interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND
