David Allen Polries

**In honor of David you are welcome to wear green and/or plaid to the service. David Allen Polries, age 53, of Thompson, ND passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. David was born in Carrington, ND on June 16, 1961 to Donald and Sheila Polries of Sykeston. He attended St. Elizabeth's Catholic School and Sykeston School, where he ran cross country. He graduated from Cardinal Muench Seminary in 1979 and attended NDSU. Following his education, he farmed full-time. Farming and agriculture were always his passion. In 1981, he married Kim Miller of Heaton. They resided in Carrington where he was a police officer. He also completed EMT training, volunteered on the ambulance service, and attended auctioneering school. David worked for a number of years in dry bean plants and wrote a weekly newsletter, the Dakota Dry Bean Report. In 1998, he started his own business in Grand Forks, Dakota Dry Bean. He enjoyed answering the phone "Dakota Dave!" He invented and refined the agricultural machines used by the company, and he served as an advisor to Dakota Dry Bean up until his death. He loved flying. In 2004, he flew his first solo flight and became a licensed pilot. He loved working outside at his rural home and fishing at the nearby river with his grandchildren. To relax, he listened to Johnny Cash and watched science fiction movies. David is survived by his wife: Kim Polries; a son: Eric and Rachel (Franke) Polries, Grand Forks; a daughter: Andrea (Polries) and Andy Sivanich, Raeford, NC; one grandson: Jackson David Polries; four granddaughters: Chasya Sivanich, Jayna Polries, Moriah Sivanich, and Neorah Sivanich; parents: Donald Polries, Carrington, and Sheila Polries, Bismarck; sisters: Linda (Charlie) Donlin, Bismarck; Julie (Lyndon) Larson, Mesa, AZ; Peggy (Mark) Anderson, Bismarck; and Patti (Bruce) Penas, Fargo; brothers: Larry (Cessna) Polries, Jamestown; and Jon (Stephanie) Polries, Sykeston; friend: Michelle Polries, Prior Lake, MN; many nieces and nephews, and his Dakota Dry Bean family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ted and Elsa Barry, and Matt and Elizabeth Polries; an infant brother: Donald Polries; and great nephew: William Polries. Memorial Services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 25th at Freedom Church in Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
