Kathryn Anne Haltli

August 9, 1930 — October 22, 2014

Kathryn "Kay" Haltli passed away peacefully October 22, 2014 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with her family by her side. Kay was born August 9, 1930, the daughter of Ingolf and Anna (Nienas) Johnson, Thompson, ND. She attended Walle Township rural elementary school, graduated from Central High School and went on to get her teaching certificate from Mayville College. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ray Haltli on January 1, 1951. Kay taught school and eventually went back to Mayville College and earned her Bachelor of Science in education in 1976. She was elected Grand Forks County Superintendent of Schools and retired from there after 17 years of service. Kay was a loving wife, devoted mother of four, was an active member of the DAV/VFW Ladies Auxiliary, lifetime member of Walle Lutheran Church and sat on the Church Council for many years. Kay was an avid knitter and provided most everybody with one of her beautiful hand-knit scarves and loved spending her time doing art activities at Wheatland Tearrace. She also enjoyed many Sundays hanging out with her "gang" grilling and gardening. Kay is survived by her four children, Ron (Nancy) Haltli, Eden, UT/Marion, ND, Susan (Orrin) Johnson, Finley, ND, Nancy (Mike) Licari, Moose Lake, MN and Russ Haltli, Grand Forks, ND. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, Ron Jr, Raymond, Katie, Angie, Nellie, Robert, , Randy, Audrey, Russell, Ryan, Rodney, Gabriel, Victor, Brooke, Sarah, and Matthew, and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy (Johnson) Bahr, and several nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents Ingolf and Anna Johnson, and sister Gladys. ***In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Wheatland Activities, 4006 24th Avenue South, Grand Forks, ND 58201 FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2014 at Walle Lutheran Church in rural Thompson, ND. VISITATION: 4:00- 6:00 p.m. with a 6pm prayer service on Sunday, October 26 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND 58201. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the service at the church. INTERMENT: Walle Lutheran Cemetery, rural Thompson, ND. Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks is in charge of arrangements.
