Verna M Lindsay

Verna Mary Hoverson Lindsay brought joy to all on September 14, 1915 in Manvel, ND and left joy to all on November 24, 2014 in Grand Forks, ND. Verna lived in Manvel, ND attending grade and high school and was a member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church. She attended Mayville State Teachers College and UND. After graduation, she taught school for nine years. Verna married Lyle Lawrence Lindsay on January 10, 1945. They moved to Dayton, OH in 1952 and Tuscola, IL in 1954. Verna was a stay at home mother to her five children. She was a member of Forty Martyrs Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was a Sr. Girl Scout Leader, a volunteer at the local hospital and enjoyed bowling, volleyball and softball. After her last child was in high school, Verna worked with Children and Family Services for 10 years. Verna and Lyle moved to Canon City, CO in 1981. There, she was involved with Senior Citizen softball, experienced her first cross country/downhill skiing at age 65, bowling, water volleyball and walking group. She was a member of New Neighbors Club, Hope Circle and the Golden Age Center. She also was a volunteer with Loaves and Fishes and provided child care for local prisoners' children. Verna moved to Grand Forks in 1987, returned to St. Timothy's Catholic Church and joined the Senior Center of Manvel. She retired from 25 years of bowling due to surgery. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Vera (Colosky) and Richard Hoverson; her husband's parents, Anna (Laidley) and Albert Lindsay; husband, Lyle Lawrence Lindsay; son, Richard Charles Lindsay; brothers, Ferdinand Hoverson, (US Army Air Corps) and his wife, Ruth (Callahan), Donald Hoverson (U.S. SeaBees), Richard Hoverson, (U.S. Air Force), and William Hoverson and his wife, Shirley (Olson). Survivors include her children, Barbara, Grand Forks, Gregory, Rockford, Il, John (Deb), Denver and Jeannette, Denver; grandchildren, Kenneth Lindsay, Rockford, IL and Noreen Lindsay, Lynchburg, VA; great granddaughter, Stephanie Lindsay, Rockford, Il; daughters-in-law, Michele Baker Lindsay and Carol Lindsay Humphries and many nieces and nephews and their families. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, November 28, 2014 in St. Timothy's Catholic Church of Manvel, ND. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in St. Timothy's Catholic Cemetery of Manvel.
