Ervin (Mike) Gary Swendseid, 79 of Grand Forks, ND. Born August 8, 1935 at Lakota, ND to parents ET and Elsie (Ackerson) Swendseid of Petersburg, ND. Mike attended Petersburg schools through ,12 grade. Then enlisted into the Army. He married Marion Chambers of Michigan, ND August 13, 1954. Mike was preceded in death by parents and siblings Ione (LeMunyon), Dorothy (Pal) Olmscheid and Terrance. Survived by wife Marion, two sons Wade (Mike) Swendseid; Chad(Lanette) Swendseid; grandaughters, Brittni (Seth) Schiele; Brenna Swendseid; and Brelyn Swendseid. Three great grandsons, Gavin 6; ESPN 1; and Reece 4 1\2 months; a brother Ralph (Audrey) Swendseid. Sisters, Norma Bennewitt; Karen Pingatore and Meredith (Ned) Holte; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike worked and retired from US Postal Service as a mail carrier, becoming the first to wear shorts. He enjoyed being the voice of Grand Forks High School Hockey for over 30 years. Mike loved supporting youth hockey and received many thanks and awards. Mike was a member of United Lutheran Church enjoying many events and volunteering. Mike was selected into Abbott Northwestern Heart Institute's stem cell research program and was the poster person for Abbotts magazine for receiving stem cells which reduced his injection fraction. We are very thankful to have been his children and will be grateful if we can become half the person he was. Thanks Dad. FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at United Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. VISITATION: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND 58201. Visitation will continue the hour prior to the service at the church.
