James R. "Jim" Oliver, Jr., died in his home on Monday, December 8, 2014 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was 66. James is survived by his wife, Linda Oliver; his children, Paula (Paul) Gilbertson and Jeffrey (Karen) Ward; his brothers, David Oliver, William Oliver, Kenny (Teresa) Oliver, Gary Oliver, Ronald "Ray" (Barbara) Oliver and Eric "Rick" (Tangy) Oliver; his uncle John and aunt Louisiana Davis; and his four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kenna Oliver; and by brothers Claude and Wayne Oliver. James loved and took great pride in his family. James was born January 23, 1948 in Augusta, GA, the son of James and Josephine (Peoples) Oliver. He was raised and educated in Augusta. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in May of 1966. He served in Vietnam and several other places including Okinawa, Japan and England before settling in Grand Forks. James retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1987 after 21 years of service. While serving in the Air Force, he met his future wife, Linda. They were married in June, 1988. That same year, he began his second career with the U. S. Border Patrol as a Law Enforcement Communications Assistant. During his career, he was promoted to Sector Enforcement Specialist. He retired from this position on June 30, 2011. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 13, 2014 in Redeemer Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks. Military Honors will be provided by the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard and the members of the American Legion Post 157 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817.
