Clarion Windingland

Clarion L. Windingland, 78, Grand Forks, died Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, Clarion Levon Windingland was born to Leon and Mildred (Troftgruben) Windingland at Grafton, North Dakota on March 10, 1936. He was raised on a farm near Hoople, North Dakota. He attended Fairview School #50, Pembina County. At age 18 he joined the US Army and became a Green Beret. He married Jung Kun Kim on August 18, 1958 at Seoul, South Korea. Upon discharge from military service in September, 1960 he was employed by Goodman's TV Shop, and later became manager, and eventually the owner. Clarion was a master craftsman, creating beautiful grandfather clocks and spinning wheels. He was an expert builder and flyer of radio controlled airplanes. He was passionate about whatever he decided to do and would always seem to excel at it. He is survived by his wife, Rose Windingland, Grand Forks; Kim Loren Windingland (Diane), St. Paul, MN, Rosemary Colleen Schmidt (Ken), Seal Beach, CA, and Linda Maureen McLaughlin (George), Jackson, NJ; nine grandchildren, Sean, Clara, Yuri, Ashley, Erica, Kirsten, George, Chelsie, Mollie; seven great-grandchildren, Stuart, Ava, Zoe, Britta, Dylan, Gavin, Kaitlyn, and an eighth on the way; siblings, Ileen Askew, Cavalier, ND, May Grant (Ed), West Des Moines, IA, Larry Windingland (Elaine), Champaign, IL, Allan Windingland (Melody), St. Cloud, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Mel Askew, and a sister-in-law Jane Windingland (Shephard). Memorial Services: will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St, Grand Forks with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
