Darrel A. Knutsvig, 70, Buxton, ND, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015, at Altru Hospital. Darrel Alan Knutsvig was born in Grand Forks, ND, on November 11, 1944 to Orlean and Theoline (Rystad) Knutsvig. He attended school in Buxton, ND and was in the first graduating class of Central Valley School in 1962. He attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks and began working at First State Bank of Buxton on November 1, 1963. He worked there almost 44 years before retiring on October 1, 2007. He was an insurance agent while working at First State Bank and enjoyed working with farmers across the area. Darrel married Wanda J. Krogstad on March 6, 1965 in Reynolds, ND. He was active in the community including volunteering for the local fire department, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dollars for Scholars, Socks for Kids, as a board member of Union Hospital and Luther Memorial Home, and in the development of the Traill County Veterans Memorial Park. He enjoyed watching and playing a variety of sports, mowing lawns, spending time with family, and visiting with others including local residents at the Buxton Cenex gas station. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, Buxton; children, Stephanie (David) Rieke, of Grand Forks, Darren Knutsvig of Buxton, Ryan (Stephanie) Knutsvig of Grand Forks, and LeAnn (Tommy) Barendt of Grand Forks; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his siblings, Bonnie (James) Stephens of Martinsburg, WV; Betty Krause of Parker, CO; Diane (John) Reinhard of Kansas City, KS; Judy (Steve) Finstrom of Savage, MN; Jerry Knutsvig of Buxton, ND; and Sonny (Rita) Knutsvig of Buxton, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Duane, and sister-in-law, Sylvia Knutsvig. Funeral Services: will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Buxton, North Dakota. Visitation: will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Tuesday, January 6, 2015 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: will be in Immanuel North Cemetery, Buxton, North Dakota in the spring. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton, or Central Valley Dollars for Scholars.
